Sounds like the Micro$oft exams. I forget which bits but when configuring WinServ'03 there are parts you are taught which are impossible to achieve. Ergo in the written exams you must write one answer and in the practical one you must perform the impossible (which is actually how it works).

no. he meant it in the sense of what he was saying was not right, as in he wasn't telling us stuff that was true.

...as in if you attend and listen to his software engineering lectures and believe what he says you will fail.

god only knows. he followed up his statement by saying something about having to take ownership of the lectures and challenging what we're presented with.

To be fair, there really is no relationship at all between computer science as it is taught in college and actual software engineering as it is practiced in the real world...

that's true, but i suspect that as this module is on the development of software from an organisational perspective [ie vague], it will mirror much more closely the "real world"

this sounds like unusually good advice at university level. In software engineering, you should never take someone elses work as being true, until you have tested it yourself. And you will nearly always be working from someone elses notes - assuming you're lucky enough to be coming after someone who actually MADE notes.

you are right, but i don't think he was being clever.

so unfamiliar was he with the lecture material, he had to check the number of powerpoint slides each lecture had so as to work out how long he could afford to spend per slide.

i thought it was something to do with importing labour from southern africa and then keeping them locked in an unhappy job and paying them pittance for their hard work until they eventually stop caring about their work, pack their bags and up and leave back to the lands from which they came...
