it's time for me to record my download memories before the korsakoff's claims them.
wednesday
emilié and i travelled up on the last coach out of victoria. ordinarily this sort of journey would be dull and uneventful, but we were in luck. dionysis [a russian on his way back to northampton] decided to chat to us.
he spoke at great length to emilié about his miserable existence and how it would probably be best for all concerned if he [dionysis] was to take his life. whilst this was happening, i alternated between reading my book and laughing at emilié.
it was touch and go for a while whether security would let us into the campsite to pitch our tents... for some unknown reason they won't let you put them up in the dark.
thursday
rum claimed most of my memories of this day. there was many kudos for my pink rave t-shirt, lots of drinking and talking to strangers... the last thing i recall is trying to explain the mechanics of projectiles to some people with a catapult who were using it to launch water bombs.
friday
woke up next to my phone, unable to straighten my left arm and with cuts and bruises on the palms of my hands.
the phone was switched off and appeared to have run out of battery, i decided to charge it [the wonders of wind up phone chargers] this was to no avail. so i took the case off to check the battery was connected properly.
it turns out, at some stage on thursday night, i'd taken the battery out and thrown it away. it also became apparent that at some stage during the night my beard had been plaited.
then gary, sian emilié and i left in search of amenities in the outside world that we could use to shower... a successful outing to long eaton leisure centre later and we made our way back to the campsite stopping at the co-op to acquire provisions including mavis, our pink piñata pal.
watched megadeth [good show, but left me thinking "how the mighty have fallen"], and velvet revolver [excellent - don't really know their stuff, but much much better than GnR last year]
then more drinking happened
saturday aka slayer day
after filling her full of sparkly stars, glitter and "hundreds and thousands" we took mavis to see slayer. she totally had the horn for them and was just dying to see them live.
we sat through machine head, my arm still hurting from thursday. they were truly wicked.
slayer were was superb. mavis, kai and i got right to the front. i managed to keep hold of mavis for about 3 or 4 minutes before she ran off to spread her glittery gizzards over the slayer fans... they loved it.
after slayer, it was back to the campsite to get boozy... gary, scott and i spent half an hour trying to hide the wine... the he's got testicular elephantitis approach was the best we could muster. in the end, we gave up on trying to get in the arena for marilyn manson and just sat outside drinking and watching on the big screen.
after that, it was in for linkin park and the bottle fight of doom. muchos fun, and linkin park were ok.
sunday
sunday started with another trip to the swimming pool, we got back in time for mastodon who were, as ever, great. then lamb of god - the loudest band of the festival by far played.
it was the most amazing mosh pit [100ft diameter circle pits], just wish i hadn't injured myself on thursday. had to sit it out :(
after lamb of god, i went and drank heavily in order to prepare [numb my injuries] for the madness that was iron maiden
i can't begin to describe how good they were... everything i was expecting and more. so much more.
after the maiden, charlie and i wandered around looking for some party action. found some, introduced some people to sparkles.

the packing and dragging of the stuff to the entrance where emilié was waiting in the queue is something i never want to go through again. the rest of the journey, however was great fun... although i'm definitely getting open returns next year.
