just learnt that the every child a reader scheme is being rolled out nationwide.

costing £2,500 per pupil, and doing what is surely the parents' job, this is exactly the sort of thing that were i a tax payer, would have me spitting teeth with fury.

people who can't/won't teach their offspring to read should not be allowed to breed.

A recent discussion led to the idea of having to take a test before breeding. This would mean that if you are incapable of teaching any child past pre-school level or didn't have the sense to send them to learn these basics you purely could not give birth or have your partner do so.

Sounds reasonable to me. Some tweaks may be needed but I'm sure one of us who would pass the test would be able to get this to perfection.
