throwing stuff away is much harder than i want it to be.

why can't i willingly achieve the same level of emotional detachment to the sentimental as i have to most things?

because they meant something and were/are important

if you want/need a complete clean start then just throw them away.

if you are unsure, try my sister's suggestion- it's not the actual object you necessarily want to keep, just the memory associated with it. take photos, put them in an album and lock the album away. in 20 years time you might want to take a look. there is nothing wrong with remembering things that happened that have got you where you are, you can still embrace the future.

Your inability to achieve the same level of emotional detachment to the sentimental is what makes it sentimental.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
