why is it in this age of high technology is it that very often, when some item of electrical equipment stops working, the solution is to switch it off then on again?

of course, hence the inclusion of the words "very often" in my question...

but i want to know why?

think about what a pc checks and verifies during startup, then apply that to other electrical equipment which has similar checks again. I hate having to reboot a pc cos people think that's all we do to fix it.

I wish i could but with the 101 different software packages we use it'd never work.
