i should really be lauding simon cowell, peter waterman et al for showing us how truly dead the pop industry is. and, i probably will come back to this subject at some stage in the future when i have more time on my hands.
however, i think it's topical with the single currently topping the charts [source: my supreme lack of faith in the british public to behave in anything other than a herd mentality when it comes to music]

...that you get the opportunity to be fat and ugly whilst whoring yourself to an industry that really doesn't give two shits about you. Also the chance to make lots of other people very rich whilst only earning a small amount for yourself, and the fun of spending the rest of your life having people you don't know asking you "didn't you used to be.....?"
