why having 8TB of storage space is not always a good thing...

have been having some problems with my pc this week.

for some unknown reason [my money's on silico-spite] it decided that it was gonna repeatedly throw delayed file write errors for no discernable reason... its favourite being of the unable to save all the data for the file D:\$Mft. The data has been lost variety which it rather charmingly mixed with intermittent periods of complete non-responsiveness.

fearing the worst i went through the usual steps:- checking device manager for any hardware issues, turning off the write caching for the disks perfmon's ugly graphs indicated were misbehaving, googling any unknown process names tasklist /fo table produced, using tasklist /svc /fo table to check what modules were hiding behind svchost & comparing their PIDs with the output of netstat -o to try and uncover any hiding nasties, disabling those services/killing the corresponding svchost process, and so on...

none of this helped in case you were wondering. next port of call was my trusty antivirus software.

that was 13 hours ago!

there's still another 35.2% of the scan to run :(
ho hum. best catch me some Zs: big day tomorrow - getting briefed on another project at 9am. in my view, an inhumanely early start, but i need all the work i can get right now: my shiny new toys have left me beyond poor.

You think you've got problems! Out of all the music I have on my phone, the only track it will play is 'What Difference does it Make?' by The Smiths, on repeat!

You think you've got problems?

I'll see your 'What Difference does it Make?' by The Smiths and raise you a " Please Don't Stop the Music" by Rihanna. But with a "donk on it" courtesy of yours truly, below.

It's my alarm clock and at the moment, my fucking ringtone! - Send help!

But why did you put it on there in the first place?

Clearly you need a proper donk on it...

Them's the kinda errors you get when you have, say, a dodgy power cable/connection to the drive.

have changed the cables to no avail :(

most of the techies on teh forums are muttering things along the lines of "it's microsoft trying to force vista/7 upon the masses"

they worked fine when first installed, so am just gonna shuffle the files & reformat the angry drives unless you have some secret pc-fu that might fix the situation
