I'd be seriously concerned about a university CS course that taught how to format disks. It would be like a biology course with an entire term on washing test-tubes.

Not really. CS is algorithms and data structures, not desktop support. I wouldn't expect a CS graduate to know anything vendor-specific, you can pick all that up on the job.

Much of the technology I use day-to-day wasn't even around when I was at university. There was no way anyone could have taught it to me. Similarly much of the fashionable/cutting-edge technology from back then is obsolete now. Learning about it would be pointless. A linked list is still a linked list, tho'.

Still, well done for memorizing all those acronyms! I suppose it helps that they all end in "FS".

Should I ever work on a project were the choice of filesystem requires more than a minute's thought, I'll be sure to give you a call.

I'm not sure I'd list "formatting disks" as a skill on my CV!
